The Demopolis Police Department has arrested a radiology technician at Bryan W. Whitefield Memorial Hospital. He’s accused of sex crimes against patients. Leland Bert Taylor Jr., 51, of Deatsville was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree sodomy. Demopolis Police Chief Tommie Reese said Taylor committed sexual acts against patients he was working on at least twice. Reese said Taylor worked at the hospital for more than three years. The hospital confirms Taylor is no longer an employee as of Wednesday. They could not specify if he resigned or was terminated. Marengo County Jail staff report Taylor is currently being held without bond. Reese said the investigation is ongoing and more charges could be added.
Legal Analysis: Hospitals are a place when people go to get healing and definitely the last place a person would think they would be sexually abused. Cases like this are sickening being that a healthcare worker may have sexually abused patients.
The hospital may be liable to those patients who are abused due to the care that the hospital was supposed to provide for them. In cases like this, the abused person may file a lawsuit against the person who did the abuse, the hospital and anyone else who may have known about the abuse and did not prevent it.
